The best medieval battle

The Battle of Hastings - 1066

Harold, Earl of Mercia, an anglo-saxon, was declared King of England by this group of chancellor-type-people called the Witan in 1066. But William, Duke of Normandy, was not impressed with the witan's choice...clearly, he, a Norman dude, should be King of England. So he's all like - ATTACK!!! But King Harold already had his troops ready from fighting (and winning) some other battle against some other guy who thought he should be king instead, so he just had to march them a little further south to where Duke William had landed on the south coast of England. The English army had this huge impenetrable wall of shields, and they were all up in the Normans' faces like "That'll teach YOU to invade England! BACK! BACK I SAY!" and so the Normans are like "OK OK! Chill, we'll back up!" and so they back up. But little do the English know, the Normans are just kidding! They aren't REALLY giving up, they're just pretending! Dun dun dunnnn. The English army follows them, still thinking they've beat these suckers...and as they follow them, their impenetrable wall of shields breaks apart. Precisely what the Normans wanted. The Normans suddenly fire a crapload of arrows reallllllly high into the air, so they come down almost perpendicular to the Earth. The English are all like "Oh, S***!!!!!!" and they look into the air to see this swarm of arrows coming down upon them. Silly, really...because since they're looking up, the arrows pierce them all in their eye sockets and kill them instantly! Poor King Harold was killed too...which means VICTORY for the Normans and William, Duke of Normandy...Who is now the only option for King of England. Thus ending the Anglo-Saxon period in English history and ushering in the beginning of Norman rule.

I'm really enjoying my history course this semester, what can I say...

Oh Kate I miss you too. And it is in fact The History of the British Isles 1066-1603. It's pretty awesome. Then once I'm done the course I'm totally going to Britain to see all the stuff I'm learning about. It'll be great.

And please don't type in french, I really don't understand that much...

I wish I'd taken a course like that before going. But oh well. Maybe I will in the future, if I ever have more room for another course...
