Rant.

I was going to write a post about the last day of school today, but upon stumbling upon this http://hs.facebook.com/group.php?gid=2392827649 on facebook, I have a bit of a rant.
The point is to make a wish for Canada in celebration of our 140th birthday this year. The top group? "Abolish Abortion in Canada". Are you freaking kidding me. I hate how people can be so one sided and all "it doesn't matter how old the baby is, it's still human and it's murder". Hokay. I can understand being against abortion if you're a stupid 16-year old who shouldn't have had sex and you should have to face the consequences, I think in that case it's wrong. But what if someone's raped and they get pregnant? You're going to force them to carry around that baby in their belly for 9 months and live through the pain of child birth, only to bring a child into the world that will forever remind the woman of when she was raped? That makes no sense to me.
However, I was pleased to see that the second highest group is "I wish Canada would remain pro-choice." Agreed, sista. If you disagree with abortion, fine. If you agree with abortion, fine. It's the woman who's pregnant's choice. Period. That's how it should be.
Also high on the list; "I wish tuition fees would either be lowered or eliminated." right. As soon as that happens, everyone's taxes will skyrocket and then people who don't go to university (not everyone WANTS to, even if they can afford it) will be paying for others to go to university. Smart one, guys.
Another one that ticks me off: "Restore the Traditional Definition of Marriage" and I quote: "Canada must restore the Traditional Definition of Marriage as one man and one woman to the exclusion of all others. We must do this for the common good of Canadian society." I'm sorry but HOW is that for the common good of Canadian society? I'm pretty sure I'll be fine if you let gay people get married. It doesn't affect me! It won't affect you. You aren't the one marrying a gay person. They are. SOOOO you can go on marrying your opposite sex person and they can go marry their same sex person. If you think it's wrong to be gay, that's great. Don't be gay. But leave other people in peace. Honestly.
And "For a spiritual revival in our nation". STOP PLEASEEEEEE ah. I am a Christian. But I hate when it's shoved down my throat and others throats to be more Christian or become a Christian or whatever. Like. STOP. please. It's like the crusades; yeah. Kill thousands of people so you force them to believe in God. Riiiiiight.
The 10th biggest group is "Canada should keep ABORTIONS and GAY MARRIAGE legal!". It has 709 people. The abolish abortion one? 5122. *shakes head*
Honestly I think there's nothing more important than our environment right now. We have 15 years to stop our emissions output or we're screwed. That is a very tiny window of time. The two environmental groups were 6th and 9th on that top 10 list. Seriously. In my lifetime I will see the earth deteriorate. Who knows what it will be like for my kids and grandkids. So instead of wishing for people to all be one-minded (ie. no abortion, no gay marriages), how about we just let people decide what they want according to how it will affect them (ie. pro-choice, gay marriages) and PING those wishes can all be eliminated and we can start focusing on our environment! SERIOUSLY. Get with it. Save the earth or we're all going to die and then you'll be thinking "wow, how could I be worrying about little things like abortion and gay marriages, when I would die in 30 years anyways and nothing like that would matter anymore and I could have been saving the environment?"

BUT that's just my opinion. :o)
